Caitlin Lyons Earns SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Caitlin Lyons, a graduate on the University of Georgia equestrian team, was named the Southeastern Conference Student-Athlete of the Year, the conference announced Saturday after the SEC Championship.
Lyons, a Mead, Washington product, graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 3.96 GPA to earn a Bachelor of Science in Ecology and is set to complete a Bachelor of Arts in French this May. She is also currently enrolled in the Master of Natural Resources program.
She is a three-time recipient of the University of Georgia Presidential Scholar Honors and has been named to the J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics Honor Roll every semester for four years. She is a four-time Winter SEC Academic Honor Roll honoree and was the recipient of the UGA Ramsey Scholarship for Academic and Athletic Excellence, which is given to the top ten student-athletes with the highest GPA, for the 2021-2022 year. Additionally, she was placed on the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) All-Academic First team twice.
Her accomplishments in the ring include being named the SEC Reining Rider of the Year in 2022 when she also received All-SEC recognition. She was selected to the NCEA All-America Reining Second Team and was later named the Most Valuable Player in Reining for UGA that season.
Lyons is an equestrian representative for the Georgia Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and was inducted into the Student-Athlete Leadership Academy in 2020. Earlier this year she was an honoree of the Peach of an Athlete Award, presented by Atlanta Area Council and Boy Scouts of America for student-athletes that represent outstanding role models for youth.
